Level of Instruction: Basic to Intermediate
Intended Audience: Medical laboratory scientists, medical laboratory technicians, and those who work in chemistry. This course is also appropriate as supplemental education for MLS and MLT students and pathology residents.
Course Description: This course is intended to provide the basic information necessary regarding the pituitary gland and its role in the regulation of various functions of the body, and the importance of the clinical laboratory in assessing pituitary function.
Author Information: Jack A. Maggiore, PhD, MLS(ASCP), serves as Associate Laboratory Director of the Core Laboratory Operations and Point of Care Testing and Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. Dr. Maggiore is a medical technologist, certified by the ASCP, with a Master of Science in Clinical Chemistry and a Doctorate in Pathology from the University of Illinois. His expertise includes clinical instrumentation, method development and validation, quality assurance, medical device clinical trials, and scientific regulatory affairs. His clinical research interests include the development of novel biomarkers for chronic diseases using blood spots and other non-conventional samples. Dr. Maggiore holds several medical device patents and has authored more than fifty peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters.

Kevin F. Foley, PhD, MLS, DABCC, is the Director of Clinical Pathology for the Kaiser Permanente Northwest region. He also teaches clinical chemistry at Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Foley earned his PhD in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at East Carolina School of Medicine in North Carolina. He has been working in laboratory medicine for over 15 years, starting his career as a medical laboratory scientist.
Judi Bennett, BSM, MLS(AMT), MLT(ASCP), is an Education Developer with MediaLab by Vastian, bringing over 30 years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist. Before joining MediaLab in 2010, she held key leadership roles, including Clinical Laboratory Manager, Microbiology Supervisor, and Senior Systems Analyst at Gwinnett Health System in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Her extensive knowledge of laboratory operations, combined with a strong commitment to healthcare quality and education, fuels her passion for developing engaging and effective learning tools for the next generation of laboratorians.
