Delay in Testing

Blood gas analysis should be performed immediately after collection—testing must occur within 30 minutes of collection.
The following parameters can be affected by a delay in ABG testing:
  • pH → falsely decreased
  • pCO2→ falsely increased
  • pO2→ falsely decreased
