Question #37: Dura Mater Grafts or Xenotransplantation

YesNo
Have you EVER
37. Received a dura mater (or brain covering) graft or xenotransplantation product?
Donors who have ever received a dura mater or brain covering graft are indefinitely deferred due to the risk of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, unless the graft was autologous, in which case there is no deferral.
Xenotransplantation products include live cells, tissues, or organs used in xenotransplantation, which the FDA defines as "any procedure that involves the transplantation, implantation, or infusion into a human recipient of either (a) live cells, tissues, or organs from a nonhuman animal source or (b) human body fluids, cells, tissues, or organs that have had ex vivo contact with live nonhuman animal cells, tissues, or organs." Donors who have ever received a xenotransplantation product are indefinitely deferred. Nonliving biological products or materials from nonhuman animals do not fall under this category.
