This course addressed some of the most common concerns of working with dermatological specimens and provided tips to create high quality slides for the dermatopathologist. However, the course only begins to dig into the depth and complexity of skin histology. The variety of techniques available to tackle these challenging specimens is as unique as each laboratory that handles skin specimens. The Mohs technique and immunohistochemical (IHC) stains for skin are among the variety of techniques that are also currently available and more techniques are being explored as the discipline continues to evolve. The ultimate goal is to ensure accurate diagnoses so that patient treatment can begin as soon as possible when needed.
