Black colony Corynebacterium species

While other types of gram-positive organisms may exhibit a black pigment on blood agar, there are a few recognized Corynebacterium species thought to be the cause of primarily urinary tract infections in females. Species currently recognized include Corynebacterium aurimucosum (also reported as C. nigricans) and C. singulare which is considered closely related to C. minutissimum.
