Rarely, postpartum PE may occur. When it does occur, it is usually within 48 hours of childbirth, although it could occur up to six weeks following delivery, even if symptoms were not present during the pregnancy. Postpartum PE can be dangerous to the health of the mother because women may ignore or even dismiss symptoms. If a woman has an underlying inflammatory disorder, such as chronic hypertension or autoimmune disease, treatment of the condition may be beneficial prior to any future conception.
