Protease facilitates the formation of capsomere segments that will unite to form the icosahedral capsid. This capsid will change into the capsid core (bullet- or cone-shaped) surrounding the viral RNA.
The host cell membrane joins with the virus gp120 and gp41 to form spikes, and the new virus will take part of the host cell's surface membrane to enclose the virus and become the new virus envelope.
HIV leaves the cell and can now infect other cells.
