Thrombocytosis Associated with Toxic Granulation

Thrombocytosis is the term used for an increase in platelets secondary to a synergistic or sympathetic response of increased bone marrow activity. This increase in platelets may accompany a variety of infectious or inflammatory conditions displaying neutrophilia and toxic granulation. Thrombocytosis accompanying toxic granulation can be seen in the image on the right.
