Acid

An acid is defined as a substance that can yield a hydrogen ion (H+) or hydronium ion (H3O+) when dissolved in water.
If an aqueous solution has a pH < 7.0, it is considered an acid.
The lower the pH, the higher the acidity of the solution.
As the pH decreases, the concentration of H+ increases.
