Engineering controls are devices that isolate or remove hazards from the workplace. They add another layer of protection against violence for the employees. Examples include:
- Alarms
- Video surveillance
- Employee photo ID badges
- Outside doors requiring employee badge access
- Enclosed nurses’ station
- Deep service counters or bullet-resistant glass in reception area, triage, admitting
- Metal detectors, if the facility is in a high-risk area
