Engineering Controls

Engineering controls are devices that isolate or remove hazards from the workplace. They add another layer of protection against violence for the employees. Examples include:
  • Alarms
  • Video surveillance
  • Employee photo ID badges
  • Outside doors requiring employee badge access
  • Enclosed nurses’ station
  • Deep service counters or bullet-resistant glass in reception area, triage, admitting
  • Metal detectors, if the facility is in a high-risk area
