General Preparedness in Your Community

  • Learn the daily routines of your neighborhood and community.
  • Be aware of suspicious or unusual behavior in your neighborhood or other areas that you frequent.
  • If traveling, do not accept packages from strangers and do not leave luggage unattended even for a short time.
  • Report any unusual behavior, suspicious packages, and strange devices to the police.
  • Do not be afraid to move or leave if you feel uncomfortable or if something does not seem right.
  • Be familiar with the location of emergency exits in buildings you frequently visit and be sure to notice the locations of exits in unfamiliar buildings or public transit areas.
  • Do not approach or challenge anyone acting in a suspicious manner. Immediately notify the proper authorities. Being vigilant does NOT mean being a vigilante.
