Documenting Collection Information

Specimen collection and handling information should be recorded and included with the semen analysis report, including:

  • The time of collection
  • Days of abstinence
  • Location at which specimen was collected: clinic or home
  • Collection or transport problems (e.g., incomplete specimen, specimen exposure to cold temperatures)
  • Method of collection
  • Abnormalities of liquefaction
  • Time of specimen receipt and analysis
