Fire Safety Policies and Procedures

Fire prevention includes ongoing, consistent compliance with laboratory fire safety policies and procedures by all associates. These include:
  • Storing flammable chemicals and gases properly
  • Reading labels and the safety data sheet (SDS) for any flammable chemicals
  • Properly labeling chemicals with obvious hazard warnings
  • Minimizing quantities of flammable chemicals and gases
  • Cleaning spills involving flammable chemicals immediately
  • Keeping work areas clean and free of clutter
  • Discarding and removing flammable waste promptly
  • Keeping fire barriers in place (closed doors)
  • Correcting fire hazards if possible or reporting to laboratory management
