Potential Assay Shift

After calibration of a clinical assay, shifting of recorded QC values can occur. A shift is a sudden change in the performance of an assay. It can occur as a result of a loss of reagent stability, an instrument malfunction, a change in environmental conditions, or some other new factor influencing the assay. As with drift, a significant shift in QC will impact the analytical accuracy of patient results and needs to be addressed.
