Accidents or injuries in the laboratory may happen when people are careless or have not been trained in laboratory safety. You must know your surroundings when working in or walking through a laboratory.
Be sure to report any injury or accident while on the job.
As a courier, this includes accidents that happen:
- while transporting specimens on public roadways
- handling specimens (such as leaky transport bags and breakage of sample tubes)
- lost or misplaced specimens (cooler or container breakage)
- incorrect temperature storage (delay in delivery)
- exposure to chemicals used in preserving the specimens
- improper securing of transported items (analyzers, containers)
Some laboratory exposures or injuries can cause problems later (like infections), so all incidents must be reported immediately.
