Accidents and Injuries

Accidents or injuries in the laboratory may happen when people are careless or have not been trained in laboratory safety. You need to be aware of your surroundings when working in or walking through a laboratory.
Be sure to report ANY injury or accident that occurs while on the job.
As a courier, this includes accidents that happen:
  • while transporting specimens on public roadways
  • handling specimens (such as leaky transport bags, breakage of sample tubes)
  • lost or misplaced specimens (cooler or container breakage)
  • incorrect temperature storage (delay in delivery)
  • exposure to chemicals used in preserving the specimens
  • improper securing of transported items (analyzers, containers)
Some laboratory exposures or injuries can cause problems later (like infections), so it is vital that all incidents are reported immediately.
