Protective lab coats or cover gowns will be provided for use during procedures where splashing or spraying of blood or body fluids onto the courier is a possibility. As with gloves, the use of a lab coat for a courier should be a rare occurrence.
Rules for wearing a lab coat:
- You are actually processing or packing specimens in the lab setting.
- Disposable lab coats may be worn for a period of time not to exceed seven days or until contaminated with blood or body fluids.
- Your name should be written on reusable lab coats with a marker, along with the date you put it into service.
- The coat must be worn with the front snaps snapped. The sleeves must not be pushed up, and gloves must cover the cuff of the coat to provide complete protection.
- Coats must be knee-length or longer. They must not be cut off to make them shorter.
