There are currently no vaccines approved for human use, but four vaccines are approved for horses. The Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium (IDCRC) is conducting research in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases on a clinical study to develop a new vaccine to protect against WNV. A phase 1 trial is just underway in 2025 to assess the safety and immunogenicity of the second-generation HydroVax-001B WNV vaccine by Najit Technologies.
