Human herpesvirus type 8 (HHV8) was formerly known as Kaposi's sarcoma associated herpes virus. It is a DNA virus that belongs to the Gammaherpes viriniae subfamily. It has been described as the etiological agent of Kaposi's sarcoma. HHV8 also infects peripheral blood lymphocytes, is seen in endothelial cells in Castleman's disease and angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathies, and has been reported to be expressed in mantle zone large immunoblastic B cells.
HHV8 latent nuclear antigen-1 (LNA-1) is a mouse IgG1 monoclonal antibody clone 13B10, that requires heat-induced epitope retrieval (HIER) pretreatment using citrate buffer. A granular nuclear pattern is observed. The DAB signal can be enhanced with the use of 1% copper sulfate.
