Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is a significant molecular technique that uses fluorescent-labeled DNA probes to detect chromosomal abnormalities. It is simple yet effective, with high sensitivity and specificity, and is well-established as a diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic tool in the fight against cancer.
FISH can be used on fresh preparations and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues. Note that all FISH performed on FFPE tissue is interphase FISH.
