Equipment Required to Prepare and Store Reagents

Cytogenetics laboratories usually perform FISH on metaphase slides; therefore, they have the necessary equipment to perform FISH assays except for the microtome.
The fluorescent microscope will be added to the equipment in the histology and immunohistochemistry laboratories, which will also perform FISH assays. If the immunohistochemistry (IHC) laboratory performs immunofluorescence assays, it will also have a fluorescent microscope.
Reagent preparation and proper storage is a critical component of performing FISH assays. The equipment necessary is as follows:
  • pH meter
  • Balance
  • Stir plate
  • Microcentrifuge
  • Refrigerator
  • Freezer
