PPE and Hand Hygiene

After removal of PPE, and before application of new PPE, wash hands or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (ABHS) to reduce exposure potential to contaminated material.
Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and lather the backs of hands, between fingers, and under nails. Washing hands with soap and water is the best method. However, if soap and water are unavailable, an ABHS containing at least 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol can be used as a temporary solution until soap and water are available.
