Face shields should be worn in addition to safety glasses or goggles whenever a splash hazard is present when working with large volumes of hazardous materials. They are often used in combination with other PPE, such as a mask or respirator.
Face shields provide eye and face protection (mucus membrane) and are secondary protectors intended to protect the entire face against exposure to splashes.
