Some arthropods accidentally serve as a source of infection to humans. These are called scalars.
Patient history may be useful in these cases.
Examples include:
- Houseflies
- Cockroaches
- Drinking contaminated water from a river, lake, stream
- Contaminated food source (such as flour containing insects)
