The 2016 WHO Classification of Myeloid Neoplasms

Some of the changes in the classification of myeloid neoplasms incorporate new molecular data. Existing categories were changed, and a new category, Myeloid Neoplasms with Germline Predisposition, was added.
Among the many changes:
  • Myelodysplastic/Myeloproliferative Neoplasms with Ringed Sideroblasts and Thrombocytosis (MDS/MPN-RS-T) were added.
  • New mutations were incorporated into the Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN)
  • The Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) were renamed, and new diagnostic criteria were incorporated into some of the categories; the term Refractory Anemia is no longer used, but rather MDS with the various descriptions of blasts and cytopenias
