The differential was as follows:
Cell Type | Patient Results | Reference Range |
Blasts | 5 | 0 |
Promyelocytes | 0 | 0 |
Myelocytes | 1 | 0 |
Metamyelocytes | 0 | 0 |
Bands | 4 | 2-6 |
Neutrophils | 63 | 5-70 |
Eosinophils | 1 | 0-4 |
Basophils | 0 | 0-2 |
Lymphocytes | 22 | 20-44 |
Monocytes | 4 | 2-9 |
Notes on the differential:
- Occasional hypogranulation of the neutrophils
- A few neutrophils with pseudo-Pelger-Huët
- Macrocytosis
- Anisocytosis
- Poikilocytosis
- Occasional basophilic stippling
The image to the right shows a hypogranular neutrophil with a pseudo-Pelger-Huët nucleus (bi-lobed nucleus). Both of these cell abnormal white blood cell findings can be seen in an MDS called MDS-EB2, which will be discussed on the next pages.
