Agents of Category C include emerging pathogens that could be engineered for mass dissemination at some future date because of:
- Availability
- Ease of production and dissemination
- Potential for high morbidity and mortality and significant health impact
These agents are assigned the third highest priority and will not be discussed in this course. (Nipah virus and hantavirus are included in this category.)
