Decreased Intake

Decreased vitamin D intake is one of the most common causes of deficiency. This is especially true in those who follow a strict vegan diet. Because most of the natural sources of vitamin D are animal-based (egg yolk, beef liver, fish, and fish oils), people who do not consume any animal-based products (e.g., vegans) must be sure to get their daily intake of vitamin D from supplements or risk being deficient.
