The Mucin-Rich Carbohydrate Tumor Markers

Mucins are high-molecular-weight glycoproteins produced by specialized epithelial cells. They protect and lubricate the epithelial surface.
The most common mucin tumor markers are:
  • CA 125
  • CA 15-3
  • CA 549
  • CA 27.29
The utility of these markers will be discussed in greater detail on the following pages.
