Anticonvulsants

Anticonvulsants (also known as anti-epileptic or anti-seizure medications) typically have narrow therapeutic windows. When levels are too low, the risk for seizure is present. Drug levels that are too high can depress the central nervous system and can lead to coma.
Examples of anticonvulsants that TDM monitors include:
  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
  • Valproic acid (valproate, Depakote)
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • Phenobarbital
  • Primidone (Mysoline)
  • Levetiracetam (Keppra)
  • Lamotrigine (Lamicital)
