Pharmacogenomics Definition

Pharmacogenomics (usually abbreviated PGx) is the study of how variations in the human genome affect a given individual's response to medications. Given their genetic makeup, it refers to how administered drugs will affect specific patients. Since many different genetic mutations and polymorphisms can affect genes transcribing drug-metabolizing enzymes, different people often respond to the same drug differently.
