According to CDC, two main groups of persons are at risk for TB infection (continued...)
Group 2 - People who are at high risk for developing TB disease after infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis - these individuals are more likely to progress from LTBI to active TB disease:
  • Recent tuberculin skin test converters
  • HIV-infected
  • Young children under the age of 5
  • A history of prior, untreated lesion on chest x-ray
  • Injection drug users
  • Those receiving specialized treatment for rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn's disease
  • Immunosuppressed or immunocompromised patients (eg., cancer patients, diabetics, transplant patients, patients in renal failure)
  • Populations defined locally as having increased incidence of TB disease (including medically underserved and low-income populations)
