TB and LTBI in the World

TB disease incidence
In 2023, 10.8 million people were reported to have TB disease globally. Eight high-burden countries (Bangladesh, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and the Philippines) account for two-thirds of this total. Globally, TB incidence is falling at about 2% per year. In 2023, approximately 1.25 million people die of active TB disease.3
LTBI prevalence
According to the World Health Organization, one-fourth of the world’s population has latent TB infection (LTBI). These individuals are not yet symptomatic and cannot transmit the bacteria.
