Examples of Synthetic Dyes

There are many more synthetic dyes than natural dyes. They are classified into several groups based on their chemical structure. Here are just a few of the more commonly used artificial dyes found in the histology lab:
  • Fast green
  • Picric acid
  • Orange G
  • Oil red O
  • Eosin Y
  • Light green SF
  • Basic fuchsin
  • Acid fuchsin
  • Crystal violet
  • Aniline blue
  • Toluidine blue
  • Methylene blue
  • Alcian blue
  • Luxol fast blue
