Immunohistochemistry (IHC) or immunoperoxidase (IP) staining is commonly used by pathologists to differentiate or distinguish diseases that are not easily identified using common histologic staining methods that look at cellular architecture. IHC or IP may provide clues to the pathologist about where the disease process began and where it has spread. Additionally, IHC or IP can be used by both the pathologist and the clinician to determine the most appropriate treatment for the disease and predict how the patient may recover.
