There are several types of connective tissue, including:
- Loose connective tissue
- Dense connective tissue (collagen)
- Adipose tissue
- Bone
- Blood
Common components of connective tissue are collagen fibers, reticular fibers, and elastic fibers. There are over 28 identified varieties of collagen, the most common are listed below. Type I and Type III collagen are found in the liver.
- Type I: Basic loose/dense
- Type II: Associated with cartilage
- Type III: Reticular fibers
- Type IV: Basement membrane
- Type V: Fetal membrane
