Repetitive Cycling

The extension process takes approximately one minute at which time the whole process can start over again. Repetitive cycling results in the exponential accumulation of product. In most cases, 20 to 40 cycles are required to be detected by whatever method is employed. Since each complete cycle only takes seconds to minutes, the whole process can be completed within an hour. In conventional PCR methods, this is the point at which the synthesized DNA can be analyzed.
