Over the last few years, there have been at least four companies that have announced they had developed fully automated venipuncture devices that could locate a proper vein and stick the patient with a success rate of close to 90%. Since the initial announcements, there has been no further data regarding research or development regarding any of the devices. In addition to the cost of the instruments, whether or not patients will trust an automated venipuncture device to put a needle in their arm questions their adoption.
