Follow-Up Actions

After an incident occurs, it is important to manage the consequences and analyze the effectiveness of your preparations. Ensure that all employees and visitors are accounted for, and contact those who are missing. Determine a method for notifying families of victims. It is especially important that all people at the scene receive follow-up care, including counseling.
To facilitate effective planning for future emergencies, it is important to analyze the recent active shooter incident. Management should create an After Action Report (AAR), which summarizes the incident and details what preparations were successful and which ones need revision (for more details, we encourage you to take our course, "Laboratory Emergency Preparedness"). Based on the incident, it is important to refine the Emergency Action Plan and provide follow-up training. Samples AARs are below.
