Prevalence of Active Shooter Incidents

Since 2000, the frequency of active shooter incidents has increased dramatically. Therefore, it is important that you are trained in the appropriate responses to active shooters and law enforcement officials that reach the scene.
Most active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Because most incidents are over within minutes, it is very important that you are prepared to handle the situation until law enforcement arrives. Preparedness and awareness are the keys to helping protect you, your coworkers, visitors, and anyone else present.
The following infographic has been reproduced from FBI reports to help visualize the number of active shooter incidents from 2000 - 2021. While healthcare facilities only comprised 16 of 434 (or 3.69%) active shootings from during this period, it is important that you are prepared.
