While there are a number of different approaches used for the classification of centrifuges, those used in the medical laboratory are customarily categorized into three major groups according to their intended use, speed, or rotor orientation. While other types of centrifuges will be mentioned, this program will primarily focus on those types of centrifuges most commonly used in the medical laboratory for the preparation of samples for testing.
