Antiretroviral agents from six classes of drugs are currently available to treat HIV infection (2018). They range from Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors such as: Abacavir and Didanosine, to Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors such as: Delavirdine and Efavirenz. There are also various protease inhibitors including Atazanavir and Darunavir and integrase or fusion inhibitors such as Raltegravir or Enfuvirtide. Finally, there is a class of antiretroviral medication called CCR5 Antagonist, which includes Maraviroc. Usually a combination of different classes of medication is used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS patients.
