Serum Processing for HLA

Patient serum can be treated by freeze/thaw processes. Freeze/thaw procedures help to reduce background interferences that would occur during analysis. Sera may be treated with DTT to cleave IgM antibodies at the Fc region and strengthen clinically significant IgG reactions by reducing IgM levels.

Adsorption techniques may be used in some labs to reduce background interference and certain coagulation factors to prevent false positive reactivity, as well as to get rid of non-HLA antibodies.
