Limitations of Speech Recognition Technology

While it has its advantages, SRT does have a few limitations:
  1. Training. All healthcare personnel who use the SRT will require training to master the system's nuances.
  2. Prolonged Dictation. Error correction and proofreading can add some additional time that otherwise wouldn't happen on a dictaphone or another recording device. However, they eliminate transcription time later and ensure the accuracy of those transcriptions.
  3. Time for Templates. Development and validation of the library of templates will require some upfront time.
  4. Potential Outages and Downtime. If there are power outages or errors that require downtime, the SRT won't be able to be used. This also requires additional cybersecurity, HIPAA security, and a viable backup plan.
