While it has its advantages, SRT does have a few limitations:
- Training. All healthcare personnel who use the SRT will require training to master the system's nuances.
- Prolonged Dictation. Error correction and proofreading can add some additional time that otherwise wouldn't happen on a dictaphone or another recording device. However, they eliminate transcription time later and ensure the accuracy of those transcriptions.
- Time for Templates. Development and validation of the library of templates will require some upfront time.
- Potential Outages and Downtime. If there are power outages or errors that require downtime, the SRT won't be able to be used. This also requires additional cybersecurity, HIPAA security, and a viable backup plan.
