Essential Equipment and Technical Requirements for Speech Recognition Systems

Each speech recognition system needs essential equipment and technical requirements in order to be both accurate and effective. As an example, we will walk through the requirements of the Dragon Medical One system. The following is required of this system:
1. Wireless Headset Microphones
  • Any microphone that can record audio data in 16 kHz, 16-bit mono format
2. Foot Pedals
  • Any foot pedal in combination with a microphone will enable hands-free mode
  • HotKey Combination:
    • Next Job - Clears the dictation box by transferring the text
    • Rew/Play - shows and hides dictation box
    • Record - Press and hold to record
3. Operating Systems
  • 32-bit: Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Make sure that the latest service pack is always applied.
  • 64-bit: Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016. Make sure that the latest service pack is always applied.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 (or higher) is required. In Microsoft Windows 8.1 and 10
  • The Dragon Medical One Desktop Application requires a 1.7- 2.8 Ghz processor and 512 MB of RAM
4. Web Browsers
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
  • Google Chrome Extension
