Introduction

Emergency management is planning for, responding to, and recovering from an emergency event. An emergency event includes natural disasters like hurricanes, spring floods, tornadoes, epidemics, and now pandemics, as well as terrorist attacks. It is critical that all clinical laboratories prepare for emergency events so that patients can continue to receive healthcare.
In this course, we will cover the requirements for proper emergency management, outline the types of emergency preparedness exercises, and provide sample emergency preparedness exercises.
