Shipping Training

Employees who are involved with the packaging and shipping of infectious substances (hazardous material) are required to be currently trained according to the DOT regulations, and in a manner that corresponds to their function-specific responsibilities. DOT requires that initial training take place within the first 90 days of hire and refresher training occur at least once every 3 years in order to remain current.
DOT outlines the Category B “General Awareness” shipping training requirements within 49 CFR Parts 172.704, 173.22 and 173.199. Additional guidance and resources for packing, shipping, and transporting specimens can be found from:
