For all workers, regardless of specific exposure risks, OSHA recommends following these good practices:
- Frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When soap and running water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content. Always wash hands that are visibly soiled.
- Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose, or mouth) with unwashed hands.
- Practice good respiratory etiquette, including covering coughs and sneezes.
- Avoid close contact with people who may be sick.
- Stay home if sick.
- Recognize personal risk factors (e.g., underlying health conditions).
- Follow national, state, and local guidelines regarding travel restrictions and other measures. Take shelter-in-place orders seriously and avoid unnecessary trips outside the home when advised by governments and health authorities.
- Practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet apart from other persons.
