SARS-CoV-2 Decontamination

Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses, making them relatively easier to kill than other pathogens.
SARS-CoV-2 is susceptible to many standard laboratory and household EPA-registered disinfectants. To properly decontaminate against SARS-CoV-2 and prevent the spread of infection, people should clean surfaces routinely, clean high-touch surfaces more frequently, wear necessary PPE, and always follow the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions.
SARS-CoV-2 can be inactivated with contact by common laboratory disinfection measures such as:
  • Diluted bleach, with bleach containing 5.25–8.25% sodium hypochlorite
  • 70% ethanol
  • Paraformaldehyde
  • Glutaraldehyde
