This brings us to the end of the full donor history questionnaire. Upon completion of the collection of blood, each unit is tested for several pathogens, including Hepatitis B and C, HIV-1 and HIV-2, HTLV-I and HTLV-II, Syphilis, West Nile virus, Trypanosoma cruzi (causative agent of Chagas' disease), and Babesia (where required). Positive tests may result in donor deferrals.
This course did not address all differences in requirements for autologous donations. Be aware that different minimum requirements may exist for autologous donors.
For directed donations, the same requirements as those addressed in this course for allogeneic donations apply.
