Normochromic Red Cells

The staining characteristics of an RBC reflect the hemoglobin concentration in the cell as well as the maturity of the cell. Mature RBCs with normal hemoglobin concentration and typical staining characteristics are described as normochromic. The cells in this field are normochromic. An area of central pallor that is not more than one-third of the cell is present in most cells.
